Zion Church Children's Event

The Zion Church continues to reach young kids with fun outreach events. This winter one of the elders, Szilveszter, started a new monthly series, walking thru the Nehemiah story - hard hat and all for rebuilding the walls of Jerusalem! Our girls are now old enough that they help the younger kids get involved and play the games. Pastor Botond is always great on guitar!

Trip South to Serbia

This was a special Sunday am trip down to Subotica, Serbia - also known as Szabadka in Hungarian - to visit a small fellowship of Serbs and Hungarians, led in part by a missionary friend Sam. We were invited to go with the Szeged Cornerstone Church, led by Andras, and we enjoyed the opportunity to visit and encourage the local believers. "Uncle Jozsi" gave a great teaching in Hungarian - with translation into Serbian - and it was powerful to hear his testimonies from over 50 years of serving the Lord in the region. We had multilingual music worship time, some Hungarian, some Serbian, and some English songs were sung. Our girls got to play with the Hungarian kids who came, using a huge container of Legos!

Hannah's Art Work

Hannah's first semester artwork was shown--private family viewing--yesterday. Donna took pictures of some of her favorites. The 1st picture is "tempera painting" around leaf imprints, and then she had to design the leaves - pretty contrasts! The 2nd is a drawing of a story, where the kids listen to the teach describe the meeting of a cat and a rabbit, who live in separate houses, but to their surprise, they are related somehow - notice their similar coats of hair, as Hannah imagined them! The 3rd painting began with looking at a picture of a parrot, and then they had to use various color paints to create their own - isn't he a cute one!

Sarah in the Village News!

This just in! The monthly Kübekháza Kurir village paper had a picture and short article about the American girl singing at the big village Christmas event. Rob has translated to English for your reading pleasure! We are proud of Sarah!

Sarah George Left the Audience Spell-bound

The church audience at the “Everyone’s Christmas” event was enthralled by the delightful 11-year old American girl Sarah George, who between the echoing walls of the church first sang Amazing Grace, a well-known Christian song, then sang her own composition as well.

The Virginia-born girl lives with her family and sister in Szeged and studies at the Juhasz Gyula (Jules Shepherd) School. Her parents accompanied her to the performance, and even her grandparents came all the way from New York to visit Hungary, spend Christmas together as a family, and be a part of their granddaughters’ Kübekháza success.

Christmas Day in Szeged

What a great surprise to get snow Christmas Eve and enjoy a White Christmas in Szeged with Dad and Louise here. We had a special day of celebrating, present opening, walking to Mátyás tér and pictures with Saint Francis of Assisi. Donna made many wonderful dishes and we ate very well!

Pre-Christmas Events

We had some fun pre-Christmas activities, including Sarah singing solos at the Szeged Christmas Market and in the Kübekháza village Christmas event. Her choir also sang in the Cathedral downtown. There was the annual Zion Church Family Christmas service, which the kids especially enjoy. We were very glad to have Dad George and Louise here to be a part of our Christmas preparations as well.

Girls' Fall Fun Party

We helped Sarah and Hannah host a fun Fall Party with all sorts of games and American style activities, including pumpkin carving and bobbing for apples, which are new endeavors for Hungarians. Sarah made each of the girls take turns sticking their hand in the pumpkin to help clean it out. That was great to watch! The girls who came were a mix Hungarian school classmates, neighbors, and church friends. These kinds of events are some of our favorites ways of connecting. It was good to have Csenge there too, as she is a university student helping Donna with a new church pre-teens class Sarah and Regina (Regi) really enjoy together.
